League: Florida State League

History: The Tampa Tarpons first came to life in 1955 as an independent team in the Florida State League, becoming the first occupants of Al Lopez Field. They would go on to become affiliates of the Philadelphia Phillies (1957-60), the Cincinnati Reds (1961-87), and the Chicago White Sox in their final season, 1988 in which they played as the Tampa White Sox. The name was revived in 2018 when the New York Yankees, who had established a new Class A-Advanced team in Tampa back in 1994, renamed the Tampa Yankees to the Tarpons.
